Bożena Wojtanowska
She is a visual artist from Tuchów. Her educational path forms the foundation of a rarely encountered combination of competencies: from classical pedagogical and artistic education to advanced interior architecture.
Education and Foundations
- Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków: In 2020, she graduated from the Faculty of Interior Architecture. Her diploma work, entitled “Light and Darkness”, took the form of a unique artist’s book, being a study of contrast and form.
- University of the National Education Commission (former Pedagogical Academy): In 2005, she obtained a diploma with a specialisation in graphic design, which consolidated her skills in the field of visual communication.
Design Activity: Umbra Design
Currently, Bożena Wojtanowska runs her own studio, Umbra Design, in Tarnów. In her professional work, she does not recognise boundaries between disciplines, offering a comprehensive approach to the image of brands and spaces. Her specialisations include:
- Branding and Visual Identity: Creating identification systems and brand books from scratch for new and existing brands.
- Editorial Design: Designing books, albums and illustration, where particular attention to typographic details plays a special role.
- Digital & Space: Website design (webdesign) and creating spatial elements and interior architecture arrangements.
Style and Creative Philosophy
In her work, the artist moves fluidly between the digital and analogue worlds. Her trademark is the fusion of modern graphic techniques with traditional craftsmanship – drawing, illustration and painting. As a result, her projects, despite their modern form, retain a unique, “human” element and artistic depth.
Initiatives and Community Projects
As a cultural animator and enthusiast of the local landscape, Bożena Wojtanowska actively promotes art in public spaces. She is the originator and main organiser of the “Plener na winnicy 2024” project – an initiative combining the beauty of nature, regional winemaking and free creative expression. She runs artistic and developmental workshops for children, youth and adults.
